JPG or PNG: which should you use?

Changing the format does not restore detail already lost through JPG compression. It does prevent another lossy JPG save.

Choose JPG for photos

JPG is usually smaller for photos, gradients, email attachments, and web publishing.

Choose PNG for text and graphics

PNG is lossless and works well for screenshots, diagrams, interface captures, and repeated editing.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion runs in your current browser and the image files are not sent to OneDay Tools servers.

How many files can I convert?

You can process up to 10 images per batch, with a maximum size of 30 MB per file.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. A format conversion cannot recreate details already removed by JPG compression. The output keeps the decoded image at its original pixel dimensions.

Why is the PNG file larger?

PNG uses lossless compression, so photos with many colors are often much larger than their JPG originals.

Will the background become transparent?

No. JPG has no transparency information, so conversion alone keeps the visible background. Use the background removal tool when you need a transparent PNG.
